poetic confusion

There’s some folks’ poetry I just can’t seem to quite understand

Are they too high as the sky for my mind, or too deep as the ocean and sand?

I read and reread, but still can’t seem to follow or grasp their meaning

Their themes seem to continually change, that I can’t help but have a confused feeling

Yes, perhaps it’s just me, and my own mediocre poetry, should themselves be canned

  1. Everyone has their own style and write for a particular kind of audience. Yours is beautiful and understandable. Don’t give up. šŸ‘

  2. There are some poems that make no sense to me either. I like poems with clear meaning that are easy to read. I don’t want to have to dig deep to try to figure it out. I want it to tell me what it’s saying.

  3. I find that if I’m having difficulty grasping a poem, I read it out loud. That can sometimes clarify the meaning or the tone or even bring the meter and rhyme to the forefront. Then again I’ve encountered poetry so highfalutin’ that one needs wings to be able to access it.
